Nystagmus

Definition

Rhythmic, oscillating motions of the eyes are called nystagmus. The to-and-fro motion is generally involuntary. Vertical nystagmus occurs much less frequently than horizontal nystagmus and is often, but not necessarily, a sign of serious brain damage. Nystagmus can be a normal physiological response or a result of a pathologic problem.

Nothing ever goes according to plan

I went to the store to buy an ink pen
I came back instead with a speckled hen
I went to the park to take a walk
But instead I ate a celery stalk

I lay downstairs to take a nap
But found myself making a bap
I called a friend to share a joke
But her house was just going up in smoke

I bought some lottery and began to dream
But the dream was ruined by my neighbour's scream
I sat down to write a wonderful song
But that was ended by the dinner gong

Off for a stroll to the shop I went
But alas! my money was already spent
I prayed to God for my daily bread
But by then, I was already dead.

My team won!

My team won!
My team has won the soccer match
Let Red and Yellow rule!
As proudly our trophy we carry off
The opponents stand and drool

Mighty passions run amok
As loudly we do cheer
We score they score we score too
Till the outcome's really clear

We scream out loud
Proclaim our feat
Our opponents glower and mutter 'unfair'
And grimly gnash their teeth

For revenge is stirring in their blood
They've got to win next time
But we don't care we are engulfed
In Victory's joys sublime.

We won, we won and that's what counts
Forget those wretched stats
The seesaw's up for us right now
Hurrah! Hurrah! Congrats!

Woodland Dance

Why is this so familiar?
This pine scented dawn
This mist rolling into the valley

I had forgotten
The sharp fragrance of woodland flowers
Released after the rain

The thunder echoes
Through the canyons and ravines
And lightning hisses like a deadly snake

The electric flash of life and death
Dances on an unseen knife's edge
And chooses where to alight

The showers pass
And the birds sing out
The promise of new life.

Find Me

Over my head
Rained a shower of flowers
The curtains parted
My eyes opened
The scent was like a pine forest
Sharp and clean
Astringent.

The wood moss laid out a carpet
Below the Spider's perfect web
Glistening with dew drops
That have not yielded their lives
To sun's warmth.

I remember only too well
When anguish first drove me here
And bid me to be her captive
But I would not then.

But now will you find me here
Seeking hearts ease
In Nature's wide open arms
Escaping from myself.

Fool's Gold in a Fake Pearl Necklace

Words spill from my pen
Splattering on the clean paper
That receives them in awe
Without complaint
With expected assent
My mind is creating the sequence
Of grand sounding words
Strung together like an important pearl necklace
And my pen writes in haste
Lest the mind forgets
What it spoke a moment ago
I look through a hazy drape
Whose webs have captured some of my words
Whereas others have slipped through
Escaping with a desperate fury
Ah! Do they love me not?
I take another sip of my sorrow
And sink further towards the dark deep bottom
Of the quicksand of my inner demons
Whence there will be no return
Wrathful eyes are watching
Waiting to tear my limbs apart
Revenge is more urgent to them
Than to ponder what will become of them in time
But the pearl necklace is fake
And the pearls are really cheap
But who was to know?
Who could understand?
The end draws nearer
And I write on
Ever faster.

Fleeting moments

Briefly came a warm breeze
On a winter`s day
A mother`s smile
When her child awakens
And their eyes meet

The first mouthful of water
For a parched tongue
The first movement
Within the awakened womb
The first time the child said Ma

You went into the sunset
Took with you
A thousand glorious memories
That shimmer
Like moonbeams on water

Loss

Moonlight on a frosty night
Glinting like shards of glass
On the dark fields
The wind cuts like a dagger
And rises into the sky
A billion little shiny pinpricks
Twinkle in the black void
Vying with the moon beams
To impress

I want to forget
To start afresh
To leave behind
The ache of today

But each sharp edge
Each moonbeam
Opens my wounds again
And in the silence of the night
Every star echoes my silent cries.

For AKG

Never did you leave
Though I saw you go
Through those double doors
Into the raging fires beyond.
I wept for the man you were
For the form
Divinely shaped
Into the frame
Of a man's man.
Then I wept
With relief
For your freed soul.

When the wind rises
Amongst the giant trees,
When my heart is heavy,
When the morning mist
Curls into the valleys,
When I savour my coffee,
When I smell the soap
You used everyday,
I hear you calling me
From somewhere close
In my heart.

Venturing

Tonight`s the night
When all is quiet
I will rise and go
No pacing to and fro

I will leave my home
I`ll leave my hearth
To wander where
My fancy goes
To places where no one knows
None except for me.
I will walk where geysers spout
and earthquakes thunder
And rend asunder
The giant rocks of time.

It is there I shall find
The fatal lure of distant things
The thrill of of what
The unknown brings
And I shall think of you.

A Lament

As I was
Watching
The unfurling
Of the rose

I slid into
A slumping
Repose

And my eyelids
Did themselves
Appose
And very soon
Began to close

And yet still worse
That I wished
To compose

That poetry
Turned
Into prose
